The family of nine-year-old Minnie Merriman have paid tribute to their daughter after she died during what was meant to be a family camping trip in Scotland.

Minnie, who was from West Yorkshire, was found seriously injured shortly after midnight on Monday at the Elliot Industrial Estate in Arbroath, Angus.

Emergency services attended the scene before she was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where she later died.

Police Scotland confirmed that a man has since been charged in connection with her death and is due to appear before Dundee Sheriff Court.

Family Statement

In a statement released through Police Scotland, Minnie's family said:

"We are devastated with the loss of our beloved, absolutely incredible, beautiful and brave Minnie Moo. Our family asks that our privacy is respected at this extremely difficult time."

Police have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident while investigations continue.

Police Scotland have described Minnie's death as suspicious.

Officers confirmed that the man charged was known to Minnie and said they are not searching for anyone else in connection with the investigation.

Detective Inspector Mike Ness, from Police Scotland's Major Investigation Team, said officers remain in the area while enquiries continue.

He added that anyone with information or concerns should speak to officers at the scene or contact Police Scotland.

According to local reports, three other members of Minnie's family were also taken to hospital following the incident.

Residents in Arbroath have left flowers and messages of sympathy near the industrial estate, close to the town's coastline.

Local councillor Lois Speed described the incident as "heartbreaking" and said the community had been left shocked by the events.

She offered her condolences to Minnie's family and everyone affected by the tragedy.

Police also confirmed that West Yorkshire Police are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
