Electronic Arts Sold in $55 Billion Deal Led by Saudi Investment Group

Electronic Arts (EA) has completed a $55 billion (£41 billion) sale to an investment group led by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), bringing one of the gaming industry's biggest companies under private ownership.

The deal means EA will no longer be listed on the stock market, with all publicly traded shares being purchased by the new ownership group.

EA is responsible for several globally recognised franchises, including EA Sports FC, The Sims, Mass Effect, Battlefield and Apex Legends.

The investment group also includes Affinity Partners, an investment firm led by Jared Kushner.

EA Chief Executive Andrew Wilson will remain in his role following the acquisition.

In a statement, Wilson said the company remains focused on creating new gaming experiences for players around the world and expressed confidence about EA's future under its new ownership.

Neither EA nor the investment group has announced any immediate changes to the company's games, development studios or publishing strategy.

The acquisition has generated discussion across the gaming industry, with some analysts suggesting private ownership could lead to changes in how the company is managed.

Some industry observers have questioned whether the new owners will place greater emphasis on established franchises and profitability, while others believe the investment could provide EA with greater long-term financial stability.

Some players have also expressed concern about the potential impact on the creative direction of EA's games, particularly titles known for offering broad character customisation and diverse storytelling.

At this stage, no changes to existing games or content have been announced.

Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund is one of the world's largest sovereign wealth funds and has invested across a range of industries, including sport, technology, entertainment and gaming.

The fund has previously invested in esports events, gaming companies and professional football through ownership of Newcastle United Football Club.

The acquisition of EA is among the largest transactions ever completed in the video games industry and follows a period of continued growth in global gaming revenues.

The deal has also renewed debate about the increasing role of sovereign investment funds in the entertainment industry and how ownership may influence the future of major global brands.

Electronic Arts is expected to continue operating under its existing leadership while the new owners begin integrating the company into their investment portfolio.

Industry analysts will be watching closely for any announcements regarding future investment, game development priorities and the company's long-term strategy.
